![]() ![]() ![]() May we all wind up on the road paved in gold, meeting up with family and friends we lost along the way. 12 years since I lost my father, and the pain is still very real. May the couple really be in paradise and may the family heal from the pain of their loss. It is a beautiful interpretation/tribute. Short google search later, I found this thread. It came on my radio today and I think to myself 'Wow, how could anyone just run off on their kids when they're sleeping? I wonder if there is anything posted about the meaning behind the song'. As I got a little older, I realized it was about death but didn't pay much attention to the lyrics and then I hadn't heard it for many years after. I pictured a little me waking up and not knowing where my brothers and sisters ran off to that day. I thought it was THE children not THEIR children. Maybe because I had so many older siblings, I didn't register that "the children woke up and they couldn't find them" would mean THEIR kids. When I listened to it, I thought it was about a group of teenagers running off having the time of their lives. Maria from New JerseyI was a kid when the song came out.Her life went completely in reverse to the point to where at her end she was looking for her mom and she was (in her head) a little girl again. Also just so happens my friends dad is in hospice passing any day now and he has Alzheimer’s and I was just talking to him about the process I watched my grandma go they when she had it. The hairs on the back of my neck were standing reading this. I am so glad I stumbled across this song and it’s true meaning. When I got to my friends house (who also shares a love for good music) I told him “you’ve got to hear this song! I totally forgot about it but when it came on my mouth just started singing all the words-didn’t miss a beat like I’ve been listening to it regularly the last 20 years!” Lol after I played it for him he was like holy (crap) I forgot about that song too and we started discussing the lyrics which lead to a Google search and here I am. Then I got into my rental car this morning and it has SIRIUS radio in it and I started jamming out to the 90s on 9 and boom this song came on. I thought it was about suicide honestly and then I didn’t hear the songs for YEARS…actually forgot about it completely.
